Some of you were already aware that there is a second financial aid form called the CSS Profile. About 250 colleges require it, in addition to the FAFSA form that the department of education requires when helping to determine your financial aid packages for college.
But many more schools are adopting a simplified version of this form called CSS Profile Lite.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t locate a list of the schools that require it. So it’s something you have to ask your contact at the financial aid department at your chosen colleges.
Here are its features:
- Reduced Questions: The CSS Profile Lite cuts the number of questions by approximately half compared to the standard version
- Faster Completion: With fewer questions, students and families can complete the application more quickly
- Earlier Financial Aid Information: The Lite version is beneficial for those who want to receive financial aid information earlier, typically in late December
This option gained a lot of traction in light of the disastrous rollout of the FAFSA form in the fall of 2023. Many schools want more information than the FAFSA can provide without going into the much more highly detailed standard CSS profile form.
Check your chosen colleges website to see if this requirement is one you need to meet.
